چکیده

This short paper describes the Shastra collaborative Web substrate and presents four synthetic environments that are under development, and take advantage of this substrate. The Shastra substrate provides an environment which streamlines the creation, experimentation and testing of Web based collaborative applications. The applications provide useful interactions in collaborative geometric design prototyping, battle eld training, networked learning, and multi-user business simulations.

A location-aware recommender system for mobile shopping environments

Exploring new applications and services for mobile environments has generated considerable excitement among both commercial companies and academics. In this paper we propose a location-aware recommender system that accommodates a customer’s shopping needs with location-dependent vendor offers and promotions. Specifically, we propose a recommender system for recommending vendors’ webpages – incl...

Transparent latecomer support for web-based collaborative learning environments

In this paper we examine the problems of synchronous collaboration of users in web-based learning environments. It is a strong challenge to develop efficient synchronous groupware systems which provide transparent collaboration of existing applications whereas participants may start at different points in time. Existing collaboration systems either provide transparency or the accommodation of l...

A semantic-aware role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments

Access control in open and dynamic Pervasive Computing Environments (PCEs) is a very complex mechanism and encompasses various new requirements. In fact, in such environments, context information should be used in access control decision process; however, it is not applicable to gather all context information completely and accurately all the time. Thus, a suitable access control model for PCEs...

Dynamic Trust in Mixed Service-oriented Systems - Models, Algorithms, and Applications

The way people interact in collaborative and social environments on the Web has evolved in a rapid pace over the last few years. Services have become a key-enabling technology to support collaboration and interactions. Pervasiveness, context-awareness, and adaptiveness are some of the concepts that emerged recently in service-oriented systems. A system is not designed, deployed, and executed; b...

Pedagogical Principles of the Theories of Interaction in Distance Learning: The Study of Interaction Anderson Model in Web-based Environments

Background: Interaction is considered a necessary, and integral part in all forms of distance learning and web -based learning environments. That how much technologies can support and help interactions is one of the most important issues that should be considered in the web-based environment. These interactions seek to engage students with other students, teachers and also non-human contex...
